Speak Life!

The thoughts you think become the beliefs you speak.

And since life and death are in the power of your tongue, it’s important to note what you’re mediating on, because you speak what you believe in your heart.

Nope. I’m not referring to humming while sitting lotus style. I’m talking about the thoughts you rehearse in your mind and say out loud, analyzing the meaning of every word.

It’s an amazing way to benefit from God’s Word because His words are spirit and life and health to your whole body.

But meditating on anger, bitterness, and betrayal—not so much. That sucks the life out of you, drying you to your core. And it’s hard to speak life when choking on toxic thoughts.

WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO?

Change the narrative.

If your thoughts don't measure up with the Truth ... pluck 'em up

1. Be intentional in your thinking. Make connections between your thoughts and the downward spirals in your attitude or emotions.

What were you thinking before you snapped at your husband, your child, or your co-worker?

Were those thoughts even true? If not, replace them with truth. And how about running them through this verse.

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Philippians 4:8, The Message

And if they don’t measure up, weed ’em out.

But for heaven’s sake, don’t just let any random thought run loose in your mind. If you do, it’ll have a seat, put up it’s feet and settle down in your heart. And like any guest who’s overstayed their welcome, they’re much harder to get rid of.

Start speaking what the Lord says instead of what you see.

2. And sometimes changing the narrative means working backwards, especially if you’re someone like me who naturally leans negative. I have to talk myself into the right perspective.

So, speak what you want to see, even if everything around you screams the opposite. God spoke the heavens amidst nothing. He made you in His image and, in Christ, you have the same authority.

Start speaking what the Lord says instead of what you see.

Say you have a sound mind and your body is healed. Say your marriage and family are blessed. Say you have favor with people, even on your job, because God says these things.

Listen, death comes by default. If you want life, the abundant life Jesus came to give you …

You better speak it!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21, NKJV

Your tongue is a weapon. Make it work for you, not against you.

“Your words have power to give life or ruin it. And if you have what you say, you may as well speak life!”
